2023 Volkswagen Jetta

Overview
Ever since its introduction, the Volkswagen Jetta has always had a place as an affordable ride for compact buyers in search of a little Teutonic flair. The 2023 model is no different, bringing sleek styling, a sophisticated interior with loads of space, an equally sophisticated array of safety and tech features, not to mention a quiet, comfortable ride. For 2023, buyers can finally get remote start on the SE trim. Other changes for 2023 are largely cosmetic. After all, why change a winning formula?
The Perfect Ride For…
The frugal thinker. The 2023 Jetta’s low starting price means you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck. That includes a surprisingly spacious interior that not only seats five adults but also handles all of your luggage with remarkable ease. All models come standard with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, but the upgraded VW Digital Cockpit Pro is also available. A 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes standard, but you can upgrade to an 8-inch unit with navigation on higher trims. This system also comes complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Pinch-to-zoom controls make the infotainment system as easy to use as one’s smartphone. If you want something that’s a bit different, the Jetta Sport is the trim for you. This trim adds distinctive 17-inch wheels and blacked-out trim pieces throughout the exterior and interior.
Drive and Handling
Aside from the rowdy GLI, every Jetta comes equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine, which pumps out a respectable 158 horsepower and a more-than-ample 184 pound-feet of torque. You also get your pick between the 8-speed automatic transmission and 6-speed manual transmission on the S and Sport trims, but the SE and SEL trims are left out of the row-your-own fun. Regardless of trim, every Jetta feeds its power through the front wheels. Fortunately, features like Electronic Stability Control and Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution help keep things under control.
Meanwhile, the GLI gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque on tap, the GLI is no slouch when it comes to acceleration. A set of sporty 18-inch wheels with all-season rubber ensures a grippy, confident handling experience.
Key Features
XDS Cross Differential System
Available on the Sport trim, this feature enhances the Jetta’s front-wheel drive traction and handling capabilities. In a nutshell, XDS acts as an electronic version of a limited-slip differential, using the Jetta’s braking system to maintain optimal traction and eliminate the understeer that’s typical of most front-wheel drive cars. The end result is improved handling under spirited driving conditions.
IQ.Drive
When it comes to safety and driver assistance features, the 2023 Jetta delivers with the IQ.Drive suite. IQ.Drive adds features like Adaptive Cruise Control and the Active Blind Spot Monitor. Other features include Rear Traffic Alert, which monitors what’s behind the Jetta and sends out audible warnings in the event of a potential collision.
Fuel Efficiency
Few things are more important to the average commuter than fuel economy. On that front, the 2023 Jetta delivers with impressive MPG numbers. When equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission, the Jetta earns an EPA-estimated 29 mpg city and 42 mpg highway. These figures will definitely impress your inner road warrior.
Alternative Options
If you need more space, there’s no better option than the original Volkswagen Atlas. This SUV was created before the Cross Sport model and offers style and performance with even more space for the entire family to enjoy. Prefer a sedan? The Volkswagen Passat offers a luxurious experience at an attainable price.
