Real World Performance

Volkswagen kept the powertrain options simple for the Taos with a single 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing up to 174 horsepower paired to an automatic transmission. This engine and transmission offer drivers a perfect balance of power and efficiency. It achieves up to 36 mpg on the highway and 28 in the city, an admirable feat for an SUV. 

Front-wheel drive is standard, and most drivers will be pleased with the easy handling of the standard option. For those who want more control in any road conditions, 4Motion with Active Control all-wheel drive is available on every trim. Driving Mode Selection comes standard on AWD models as well, with three drive modes to tailor the response of the Taos to your specific needs. Active Control also has four settings: Snow, On-Road, Off-Road, and Off-Road Custom, further enhancing the capability of the 2026 Taos.
